Prosecco on Track for 'Fabulous' 2015 Harvest

Prosecco-Terraces

Following fears of a Prosecco shortage earlier this year, we confirmed last week that Prosecco stocks have now dried up and won¡¯t be replenished until the 2015 vintage hits the market in October.

As producers prepare for this year¡¯s harvest, keen to replenish their stocks as demand continues to boom, Follador has proclaimed this year¡¯s harvest to be ¡°one of the best¡±, thanks to a favourable climate and temperate conditions through until early summer.

¡°We are right on the doorstep of harvest¡±, said winemaker Francesca Follador. ¡°Within the next several days we will be heading into the vineyards to bring in the grapes once it is determined they are at perfect ripeness, probably in mid- September.

¡°Thanks to favorable weather conditions the quality of the grapes is excellent; good-looking golden and ripe berries with a fruity bouquet of yellow apple, peach and pear. The only thing we need to do is begin picking at the ideal moment to bring out the best from the fruits of this fabulous 2015 vintage.¡±

Prosecco has been enjoying a much-publicised boom in recent years, with consumption reaching record levels. In the UK off-trade, sales of Prosecco increased 72% in value  in the last year totalling ¡ê338 million, up by ¡ê142 million. By volume, sales increased by 78% to just over 37.3 million litres.
