France has been in talks with China since 2011 to have the country recognise the Bordeaux appellation in a bid to combat counterfeit wines.

The French agricultural ministry said the agreement was an ¡°historic advance¡± in the fight against fakes.

The agreement was made on the first day of a three day visit to France by Chinese prime minister Li Keqiang. Another 100 geographical labels from the two countries are being discussed as part of ¡°wide-ranging¡± trade talks.
