High quality Chinese wines to feature at Decanter Shanghai Fine Wine Encounter

The prestigious one day event, held at the Ritz-Carlton Shanghai, Pudong on 26 November 2016, aims to provide guests the unique opportunity to experience the diversity and brilliance of the world of fine wine.

Five Chinese wineries have taken individual stands at the Grand Tasting, including the third-time exhibitor Helan Qingxue Vineyard from the Ningxia Helan Mountain East wine region.

Founded in 2005, the winery's Jiabeilan Grand Reserve 2009 won the International Trophy for Red Bordeaux Varietals over ¡ê10 in the 2011 Decanter World Wine Awards. Its victory arguably put China's Ningxia wine region on the world wine map. ZHANG Jing, winemaker of Helan Qingxue Vineyard, together with the winery chairman RONG Jian, will display four wines from the recently vintage, including its Jiabeilan Estate and Jiabeilan Reserve.

Grace Vineyard from Shanxi is another winery that has been supporting the annual event since the beginning in 2014.

The family-owned boutique winery was founded with the help of Bordeaux oenologist Denis Boubals, and has won international recognition in the past decades. Judy Chan, CEO and daughter of the founder, will bring six wines from its Angelina Sparkling, Tasya's Reserve and Deep Blue series.

Ningxia producer Legacy Peak and Chateau Nine Peaks from Shangdong Province both attended last year's Shanghai Fine Wine Encounter and gained praise from the consumers.

They will return this year and will be joined by a new exhibitor Xinjiang Tiansai Vineyards.

Located in the Gobi Desert, Tiansai Vineyards continuously practises organic vine-growing and commits to make wines reflecting the local terroir. CHEN Lizhong, owner of the winery, will showcase some of the winery's best wines, including its Reserve and Selection series.

Apart from these wineries, a special stand will be organised to showcase eight Chinese wines that won Gold and Silver Medals in the 2016 Decanter Asia Wine Awards (DAWA).

Professor LI Demei, a DAWA vice-chair, has also selected three Chinese sparkling wines in his seminar Sparkling Wines from Unexpected Countries.
