Macao government claimed to abolish all the imported alcoholic beverage tax with less than 30% alcohol content since Aug. 26th this year. That is to say, the retail price of wine in Macao will be down 10%.
Liangying xiu, the director of Macao General Merchandise Chamber of Commerce, said that
distributors and traders always keep 1-3 months worth of stock on hand, though the light alcohol (including beer and wine) duty is free now, the retail price in the market will decrease after three months.
Liangying xiu said that since Hong Kong carried out the alcohol tax- free policy, the alcohol- related business in Macao has reduced about 30%. The new change in Macao is expected to attract more imported alcoholic beverage into local market and bring benefit to the restaurant market and tourism.
